Volume-root scan correction

An earlier root-path implementation could normalize a Windows volume root incorrectly and end a “full” scan almost immediately with zero files. Version 8.0.0 corrects volume-root handling and adds dedicated root-path tests.

The compiled release candidate was also exercised in a read-only scan of a real D:\ root. It enumerated 42 directories and 17,486 files in 2 minutes 13.774 seconds. Two access errors were reported honestly, so the result was marked incomplete rather than clean or complete.

Known limitations

  • The current installer is not code-signed.
  • The detection engine uses versioned built-in definitions; passing the release corpus does not guarantee detection of unknown future threats.
  • Physical USB scale validation was deferred in the unattended gate; controlled fixed-disk data and a separate real drive-root scan were used.
  • Operating-system permissions can make a scan incomplete.
  • Visibility repair changes attributes and cannot restore deleted or corrupted files.
  • Shortcut Remover is not a replacement for endpoint protection.

Safe update procedure

  1. Download from this website only.
  2. Compare the file’s SHA-256 with the value above.
  3. Scan the installer with Windows Security.
  4. Keep quarantine history or exported evidence needed from an earlier version.
  5. Install the update and run a narrow verification scan before a full-drive scan.
